I've used a Linux DHCPv6 server now to dish out IPV6 DNS. SLAAC is still configured on the SRX with the 'other' flag set. I'd rather have not had to do this as this is just my home connection but its been a useful exercise so I can familiarise myself with the process none the less.

Native IPv6 from your provider? Consider yourself lucky! Yea I've scoured Juniper and I haven't seen any mention of DHCPv6 client for interfaces. In the latest 12.1 docs I did find mention of a address ndp hierarchy, but it would take some experimentation. Usually you can request a static IP from your provider, but IF they even do that for IPv6 you're probably going to have to pay extra for it. I'll stick with my tunnel for now.

That and my previous issue with obtaining a DHCP lease from Time Warner via the untrust interface still eludes me. All the googling I have done resulted in several people with the same issue and no fix in sight.

I may just open a ticket with Time Warner and see if they can provide me with a /64 or something and a known gateway I can use.

I have not, at work we are looking to rely on a Windows DHCPv6 server to fill this role. It's something I will continue to investigate though, because it is the missing piece to the puzzle on my home network.

Have either of you got IPv6 DNS assignment working? I've tried various different configuration options and still can't seem to get DHCPv6 using the dhcp-local-server options to work at all let alone handing out IPv6 DNS to my clients.

No other problems, but ironically, I used packet-mode too. I just switched it to flow-mode (which requires a reboot) and it continued working. At least things are getting better in Junos-land.

I really, really wish they'd get DHCPv6 working completely, rather than just local-server. I'm pretty sure TWC is handing out IPv6 right now, but Junos has no option to receive an IPv6 address via DHCP. :(

With Junos 10.4 I had to turn packet-mode on for inet6. In packet mode it doesn't use the security zones, so I applied an inet6 firewall filter to the ip-0/0/0 interface. But with 12.1 IPv6 support may be improved. I will do some research, as I would much rather use security zones than firewall filters.

Thanks for the information, did you have any other issues running 12.1?

Signed up for an HE account tonight and got this working, even with my dynamic TWC IP, on my SRX100 running Junos 12.1.

I wanted to mention that I had to put the ip-ip interface into the untrust security zone for this to work.

I just found this sentence:

"For all three of the Junos Tracks below, the JNCIA-Junos is the prerequisite credential. "

:) This is my starting point! Thank you!
